One of the major problems we have today, is that we have gone down the wrong track. We have become so used to other people doing every thing for us, now when we feel hungry we expect to have a meal ready prepared in a box so we can just sit down and eat.

It is now evident that we have lost control over what we eat, you can see all around the western world, big overweight people stuffing their supermarket trolleys full to overflow with packaged processed ready made meals. These also include (so-called healthy choices) that are in fact full of extremely bad stuff. They are often high in weight gain carbs, high in saturated fats, trans fats, salt and sugar, and don’t forget the added chemicals, preservatives, artificial flavourings, colours and other e - numbers that our bodies simply cannot recognise as food.

Why simplifying your meals makes good sense!

You're probably used to making large cooked meals with lots of ingredients. So going back to the simplicity of eating just one food at a time like apples, bananas or a mango smoothie may seem a little strange to start with. But I must say it's one of the major steps toward eating a truly natural diet. The thing is, when your body is fully nourished, you simply don’t need to eat so much food.

I really enjoy this way of eating because it gives me lots of energy. I’m sure if you keep your meals quick, simple and nourishing during the day it would fit in better with your work schedule and in fact you’ll probably work better too! But first, realize it's ok to do this; you don't need to have lots of different foods at every meal for a balanced diet. The important thing is to eat a good varied nutritious diet throughout the course of the day / week.

I tend to eat plenty of fruit and a large nutrient dense smoothie each day, plus one or two highly nutritious light meals. So my average day could consist of half a large smoothie with added superfoods & protein for breakfast, with the other half mid morning. For lunch, fruit and a mixed salad or vegetable based meal and then maybe a piece of healthy "seed base" pizza for my evening meal. I find this type of food satisfies me much more than heavy cooked meals. I also like to have a few nuts, spiced seeds or spicy flax crackers to snack on.

Another day, I may just have fruit for breakfast with a healthy mid day snack, then for lunch maybe a delicious avocado & lime soup followed by a mixed salad and a piece of home made "passion fruit & lime" cheesecake. For dinner, I could have raw Thai Curry with parsnip rice or tomato, mango & lime salsa with tortilla chips, followed by chocolate torte or some delicious home made (none dairy) coconut ice cream to round off a really nutritious day.

The most important thing about your diet and weight loss - Is Your Diet! So the way we work is this; instead of depriving your self by thinking about what foods you shouldn’t eat, we focus and concentrate more on the delicious healthy foods you can eat. In other words how you can add more nutritiously rich foods and more high water, high fibre foods into your diet.

One good way to do this is by making highly nutritious smoothies; you can also incorporate the habit of eating a large healthy salad at least once a day. The great thing about eating more fresh organic raw foods with the correct condiments is that they feed & nourish your whole body, so you feel fully satisfied without the bulky high calorie, weight-graining (nutrition-less) carbs.

For a satisfying meal, eat some fruit 20/30 minutes before your main meal, that way you'll feel completely satisfied. I don't want you to have your salad and then be looking around for something else to eat, fruit is calorie dense and so very satisfying so it will negate the need for a large heavy meal.

You can pre-prepare a large mixed salad with ingredients like: chopped lettuce, cucumber, chopped celery, grated raw beetroot and carrots, grated or chopped fennel, zucchini, bell peppers and baby spinach leaves etc. Avoid wet ingredients such as tomatoes; just add those at the last minute. You can then keep your salad in a plastic container in the fridge.
